Privacy Analytics Risk Assessment Tool (PARAT) API

The Privacy Analytics Risk Assessment Tool (PARAT) takes the guesswork out of understanding the threat of re-identification by allowing you to precisely measure re-identification risk. Using peer-reviewed metrics and de-identification algorithms, PARAT assesses, measures and manages re-identification risk while generating maximum data granularity -- uniquely protecting against all known types of re-identification attacks. PARAT optimally de-identifies information to protect individual privacy while retaining the data's value.

To help address the varying requirements for de-identification of health information our customers face -- health IT vendors, health information exchanges (HIEs), accountable care organizations (ACOs), hospitals, and public health programs – Privacy Analytics offers not just our standalone Privacy Analytics Risk Assessment Tool (PARAT) software tool, but also the PARAT API.

The PARAT API is more suitable when there is a need for integration with existing applications (e.g., ETL type process for a data warehouse or as part of an automated data export workflow) or for incorporation into web portals or other custom software developed within your organization. Once integrated, users can easily tap into existing data repositories through PARAT API calls.

With a simple architecture designed for high throughput and multiple users, the PARAT API can be applied in situations of high load and high demand on data. All of the functions in the PARAT desktop tool can now be accessed through the API.

How the PARAT API Works

Through calls on the PARAT API, data can be imported from the external database (e.g., SQL Server database, Oracle, CSV files or Access) into the API workspace based on the selected set of parameters. PARAT then runs the de-identification analysis functions according to those parameters and re-exports the de-identified version of the dataset.

This exported dataset could then be used for secondary purposes like research, public health or commercial uses where there is a requirement and advantage to credibly and defensibly claim that the dataset is de-identified.

PARAT API System Requirements

The PARAT API is a Windows-based application. It can run on platforms ranging from XP to server platforms. It is licensed based on the number of concurrent sessions that can run at any time.
